Shabbat Services

Throughout the year, JFS brings Shabbat Services to the Jewish residents in senior facilities. The services aren’t just about celebrating Shabbat, they are about visiting and interacting with the residents, doing arts and crafts, and getting to know our more isolated Jewish neighbors. We also celebrate 52 Shabbat holidays each year at Greenwich Hospital, providing this Jewish connection not just to patients, both in person and through the hospital’s tv channel, but also to doctors, nurses, administrators, and community members. In order to accomplish this, JFS mobilizes Greenwich Jewish Clergy, volunteers both young and old from throughout the area, as well as community organizations and local Jewish institutions.

Every Friday at 1:00pm

Bikur Cholim

The Bikur Cholim Program operates onsite at Greenwich Hospital, and at six Greenwich facilities that serve the elderly and infirm. Translated, visiting the sick, our Bikur Cholim Program reaches out to and engages the frail elderly, the infirm and the disabled; our volunteers and staff visit with and cares for Alzheimer’s patients, participants in adult day care, residents of assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and hospital patients.

If you or someone you know would like to volunteer with our Bikur Cholim Program please contact Larry Stoogenke at Lstoogenke@jfsgreenwich.org for further information.

Jewish Holiday Programs in Senior Facilities

JFS ensures that Jewish traditions and services are available for the frail, elderly, infirm, and disabled. Over the course of a year we produce 50 Jewish Holiday programs at five senior facilities in Greenwich as well as at Greenwich Hospital. For many we serve, the Bikur Cholim Project is the sole, on-site link to their Jewish heritage and traditions.
